Wits end..

I have spend too much time trying to find articles on event planning mishaps and horror stories. A Google search doesn't quite have what I'm looking for. I posted a couple links about tips on what not to do and events gone wrong stories. But that isn't good enough for me... I tired going into the school's library web page and searched in JSTOR there but the results weren't even close to what I am looking for. I want to find things that have gone wrong in other events planned, what I should avoid in my future events planned, what to look for in a company with well strained specialists, what kind of company would be embarrassing to event plan for, etc. Things like that.

What search engine on the UVU website should I use? What would be some good key phases to type in?

good times just keep comin'

This week I got in touch with an old friend of mine that I used to work with, we ate some lunch while I drilled her on her job. She is now the event planner for Sleepy Ridge Golf Course. I have some pretty detailed notes on the interview that I am not allowed to post (she said so..). After talking with her and discussing what it is like for her, being an event planner and she told me that if I wanted I can have an internship with her in the April! WOO! haha!! She told me that she would love my help and I am more than happy to intern for Sleepy Ridge and Noah's :) Oh yeah, its all comin' together!

I have seriously tried my very hardest to get my scanner to work. It hates me. I cannot scan in the pictures of my sister in law and my brother's wedding! But know that I am getting the pictures together in a nice portfolio, I am getting some pictures reprinted so they can be bigger too. I am still waiting for those to be done... Maybe Target was a bad place to get those reprinted....

An event coordinator puts together events, from the idea for the event to the full execution of the event, including planning, scheduling and guest lists. Coordinators may work such events as weddings, concerts or industry trade shows. There is no specific educational or professional route that is required for a career as an event coordinator.

oh yeah, its all comin' together... :)

So... I got the internship!! Woo! I am running the social media for Noah's event center!! After my three month internship, I will have a job at Noah's assisting the team in planning the events at the Noah's in Pleasant Grove and in South Jordan. I am so excited! My first meeting is on Monday. :) This is going to open up a world of event planning for me. I have 90% of my experience in wedding and I cannot wait to get opened up to a whole new world!

I know that I said I would post pictures, but I am waiting for my sister in law to give me the pictures so I can scan them in. She said she would bring them to dinner tomorrow, so tomorrow I will get them up and running.

Researching more into event planning companies

I've spent a lot of time looking at Modern Design's website. The more and more I look around, the better I like everything about it. They not only have a store where you can buy things, but they have event coordinators and supplies to the extreme! I emailed them to ask for an internship there or any sort of job to get my feet wet. I am waiting to hear back from them.

As far as a portfolio goes, I have kind of already started one. A while back, I helped coordinate my brother's wedding. We had the reception in our old backyard and we had to spice everything up back there. I will post pictures of the party so everyone can see how it turned out.
